Summer in Los Angeles
This past summer, I left Michigan behind and moved to Los Angeles, California for a public relations internship with a company called Pull Public Relations. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity and it pushed me both professionally and personally. I also did it all on my own, which made the experience even more impactful. Being in a new city without anyone I knew taught me a lot about independence, and I learned that it is okay to be alone and still fully enjoy where you are in life.
At my internship, I composed press releases and pitches, monitored media coverage, supported event planning, engaged in influencer outreach, curated outfits for influencers and celebrities, and researched industry trends. Each day brought a new challenge and new skills that helped me grow in the PR field.
Outside of my internship, I took in everything LA had to offer completely on my own. I tried famous restaurants, spent time in Santa Monica, Malibu, and Beverly Hills, and hiked Runyon Canyon to get an amazing view of the city from the top of a mountain. Doing all of this solo gave me a lot of time to reflect and become comfortable with my own company in a way I hadn’t experienced before.
The summer was the perfect mix of career growth, adventure, and personal discovery. It gave me memories and lessons that I will carry with me far beyond LA, especially the reminder that being alone does not mean being lonely.
